Last Sunday night was an exhilarating evening for Amigos de los Rios, we attended Nickelodeon’s TeenNick 2013 HALO Awards with 30 volunteers from El Monte Key Club, Mount San Antonio Circle K Club, Kiwanis Green Team – Downey High School, and Boyle Heights YMCA.
These teens are making a difference – right now – creating a legacy urban trail and park network to benefit younger students and families – working hard every Saturday so the next part of the project is completed.
As Managing Director – Founder I could not be prouder to see a group of young leaders representing us at this event. Everyone looked beautiful – a great comparison to being down and dirty at our event- planting trees and native shrubs and spreading mulch.
And it gets better, not only did we get to attend the HALO Awards but a very special Amigos weekly volunteer event was featured during the show. Here is a clip of the 2013 HALO Awards Show highlighting the volunteer group’s work at Hollydale Park.

We would like to thank Nickelodeon for their support of volunteerism! Since 2009, the HALO Awards have recognized teens who work hard to make the world a better place. HALO honorees prove that you don’t have to be adult to make a change. And what’s more, each honoree receives prize money in the form of a grant to help further their efforts! To nominate someone you find inspiring for a HALO AWARD

If you would like to volunteer, Amigos de los Rios volunteer events take place every Saturday(see our calendar of events) and everyone is welcome to attend.
