A great celebration at Salazar Park!

On Saturday June 20th, representatives from First5 LA, Best Start, Los Angeles County – 1st District, Amigos de los Rios, the California Conservation Corp. and community members all came together on Saturday for a Ribbon Cutting celebration at Salazar Park for the new Tot lot amenities.  The new park amenities were designed for children 0-5 years of age.

The celebration started with the Pledge of Allegiance lead by Mario Lopez Jr., commentary by Claire Robinson of Amigos de los Rios, Karen Robertson Fall of First5LA, Joselyn Rodriguez of Best Start and Maricela Avelino a local parent involved with Best Start, and Teresa Villegas representative for 1st District – Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis’ office.

Attending were members of the surrounding community, Best Start members and volunteers, Amigos de los Rios staff and volunteers, and staff from the California Conservation Corp. – Norwalk office that had been involved with the renovation work done at the park.

Attendees were treated to a dance show by Ruby Patino of No LIMIT’S Fitness and her dance group, they did a fantastic performance and got everyone involved in the fun!

The Tot Lot and Trail renovation project at Salazar Park was lead by Amigos de los Rios with support from the California Conservation Corp. and key grant funding from First 5 LA as part of their $10 million Tot Park Grant program and from the Los Angeles County – 1st District Supervisor – though a grant from the Los Angeles Regional Open Space District.  Support for the native trees and plants landscaping were provided by Southern California Edison Foundation and Union Bank Foundation.
