Greening the new Seymour Center in El Monte

The Cal Fire and Forestry “Seymour Family Green Infrastructure Center” a Green Innovations program Grant will fund  transformation “via greening” of the decommissioned Munhall Elementary School and related green infrastructure education programs in partnership with the El Monte School District. This location is being converted  into a  “one stop Family Wellness  Center” named after legacy teacher & superintendent Ex Officio Jeff Seymour.

The Seymour Center will house over 18 local nonprofits providing services for residents from early Head Start to Adult and Family Health Services in a natural campus setting with views of the San Gabriel Mountains.

Our green infrastructure, multi objective demonstration elements on campus will allow community residents to learn about our aspirations for San Gabriel Mountains & River Watershed and engage in urban and community forestry initiatives related to the Emerald Necklace. (a network of Trails from Mountains to the Sea). One of recreation elements we will create is a bike course constructed in concert with LID water infiltration elements.  Bike SGV is located at this campus and will provide Bike safety training and design input for bike trail at this location.
