The Madison Elementary School campus is of special importance as a joint-use facility open to the public during non-academic hours. In particular, project activities focused on accomplishing the following objectives for these core campus areas:

Main Asphalt Area Play Yard: Expand urban forest canopy, reduce heat island, create playful landscape areas and an outdoor classroom enhance habitat and stormwater management

Secondary Asphalt Area near Parking Lot: Establish food science outdoor garden to provide local food and promote academic opportunities.

Athletic Field: Plant trees around perimeter to reduce heat island and cool the field.

Grade 3-5 Quad Courtyard: Create a shaded quad where students can enjoy outdoor learning and nature-based seating and play elements to inspire new academic opportunities.

Kindergarten area: Enhance student amenities and learning spaces, improve ADA accessibility, and create three outdoor classroom/learning areas that benefit from legacy trees on campus and create a nature trail/trike trail that winds around their canopies.
