Thank you to Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA), Representative Judy Chu (CA-28), and President Biden for expanding the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument by an additional 105,919 acres of public lands!
Now that the National Monument has been expanded, we call for adequate funding and resources for both the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument and the Angeles National Forest to ensure proper and sustainable visitor management, facilities that protect our watersheds, and the conservation of the forest’s rich biodiversity, while providing a safe and dignified environment for everyone.
Over 18 million people live within a 90-mile radius of these public lands. This expansion increases equitable access to nature and improves public health for local residents. It also helps conserve a critical drinking water source for Los Angeles County and addresses the climate and biodiversity crises.

Initially, this plan proposed to sell a minimum 2 million acres of federal land in 11 western states to the highest bidder over the next 5 years, starting within 30 days of the passage of this bill – with no ability for public comment.
